An Open Letter

To: Pres. Biden, Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden, Rep. Blumenauer

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

July 3

After last Thursday night’s debate, I am extremely concerned about Joe Biden's ability to prosecute the case against Donald Trump and win the election. We need a candidate who can clearly communicate the threat Trump proposes to this country.  I continue to see fundraising requests like this one from the Biden Harris campaign, which say nothing about this.   I have no doubt that he can do the job of president, as he has been an exceptional one for the last few years. However, we need to all we can to defeat Trump, and I have serious doubts about Biden’s ability to do THAT job.  President Biden put himself in this position by choosing the debate timing and touting it as the way to calm longstanding fears about his age.  He failed to do this. He has now made it much harder for us to do all we can to support him. Please urge him to consider voters and democratic leaders’ concerns seriously.  We MUST ensure we have the best possible candidate to keep Trump out of power.  This our most important goal. The consequences of a Trump victory will be devastating to this country.
