I am writing to urge you to take a clear, vocal stand against the political attacks and policy proposals that continue to undermine the rights and well-being of people with disabilities across the United States.
Recent efforts to cut Medicaid funding, weaken the Rehabilitation Act, and dismantle critical programs like Social Security Disability Insurance and the Institute of Museum and Library Services have made it painfully clear that many in power are willing to balance budgets and score political points at the expense of disabled lives.
These aren’t just policy changes—they’re acts of harm. They target those who already face immense barriers to healthcare, education, housing, and full civic participation. People with disabilities deserve autonomy, dignity, and equity—not to be treated as burdens or afterthoughts.
I urge you to:
1. Publicly oppose any budget or policy proposal that cuts services for people with disabilities, including Medicaid, SSDI, and special education funding.
2. Protect and expand the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act to ensure that no person loses their civil rights due to legal loopholes or political maneuvering.
3. Reject any attempts to eliminate or weaken the IMLS or similar agencies that ensure accessible information, education, and culture for all.
4. Ensure that voting remains accessible for people with disabilities by expanding—not restricting—ADA-compliant polling access.
The disability community is not invisible. We are watching. We are voting. And we deserve representation that respects our humanity.
Thank you for your time and your leadership. I hope to see you on the side of equity and justice.
