I’m writing to express my deep concern over the recent events involving Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Supreme Court, and the Trump administration’s open defiance of a unanimous judicial ruling. As you are likely aware, the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the federal government to facilitate Mr. Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador, recognizing that his deportation was in violation of U.S. law and court orders. Yet, not only has the administration failed to act meaningfully to comply with the Court’s directive—it has shown blatant disregard for our judicial system and the rule of law. This is not just a legal failure; it is a moral one. Mr. Abrego Garcia was living legally in Maryland with his American wife and child. His forced removal has torn apart a family and sent a man into inhumane conditions abroad. The suggestion by the administration that this was a "clerical error" insults both the intelligence and values of the American people. This dangerous precedent—where a president can ignore the Supreme Court and abandon our legal responsibilities—threatens our democracy. I urge you to take immediate and decisive steps to hold former President Trump and those involved accountable for this abuse of power. Congress must reaffirm the authority of the judiciary and the sanctity of due process. Additionally, we must act now to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home. Every day that passes is a day his family lives without him and his rights remain violated. His life is at risk, and we owe it to justice, compassion, and our Constitution to correct this wrong.
