Protect worker rights, oppose harmful corporate labor policy

To: Rep. Bonamici, Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

July 25

This proposed policy threatens to undermine worker protections and shift an undue burden onto employees. It reflects a prioritization of profits over people's wellbeing and safety. By allowing businesses to classify more workers as independent contractors, this measure enables companies to evade providing essential benefits and fair wages. Instead of incentivizing corporations to uphold ethical labor standards, it unfairly places the onus on individual workers who may lack bargaining power. We should be strengthening workplace rights and holding employers accountable, not finding new ways to exploit loopholes that compromise employee welfare. I urge a reconsideration of this policy that properly values the rights and dignity of all workers.
