End the Canada Tariffs Before They Hit Every American's Wallet

To: Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn, Rep. Kustoff

From: A constituent in Brownsville, TN

August 27

End these tariffs on Canada. The trade war that collapsed last weekend is already costing real people real money, and the idea that it won't affect consumers is insulting. Procter & Gamble already warned it would raise prices on Charmin. Canada is hitting back with 25% to 50% tariffs on nearly 900 American goods starting September 8th. The US imported $328 million worth of toilet paper from Canada in 2024 alone — Canada is our single largest supplier. This hits grocery bills, not just trade spreadsheets. The damage goes well beyond bathroom products. Canadian whiskey, dairy, fish, auto parts — all caught in this spiral. A 25% tariff on Canadian cars and parts threatens American manufacturing jobs, and Trump has threatened to double it to 50% by January 2027 if there's no deal. Jamieson Greer says "the fundamentals are good" and this won't affect anything. That's not a policy — that's denial. Push the administration to get back to the table and get this resolved before September 8th.
