Reject Project 2029's "Kids Over Clicks" proposal. It is being sold as child protection, but enforcing an under-16 social media ban requires age verification for every user — meaning government ID checks, face scans, or digital credentials for anyone who wants to go online. That is not a child safety policy. That is the end of online anonymity. The contradiction is built into the document itself. "Kids Over Clicks" includes provisions to cap data collection on minors and ban targeted advertising — both genuinely good privacy protections. But age verification demands the very identity information those same provisions claim to protect. You cannot ban surveillance and mandate identity checks in the same breath. Australia tried this in December 2025; kids found workarounds immediately, but the ID requirement stayed. The UK now requires passport or face scans to access Reddit and X. The EU is folding age verification into a continent-wide Digital Identity Wallet. This is the surveillance infrastructure being built by Britain, Brussels, Abu Dhabi, and Riyadh — and "Kids Over Clicks" would have the Democratic Party running on the same blueprint in 2028. No one wants to be seen opposing child safety. That political cover is exactly what makes this dangerous. Stand against it anyway.
