Trump Slush Fund - Defund NOW

To: Rep. Nadler, Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A verified voter in New York, NY

May 21

I am writing to you today as a deeply concerned constituent and taxpayer. What has unfolded this week with the Trump administration’s IRS settlement and the creation of the so-called “Anti-Weaponization Fund” is, in plain terms, an act of blatant corruption — and I expect you to act. Let me be direct about what has happened. President Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over the leak of his tax returns. His own Justice Department — staffed with hand-picked loyalists — then settled that lawsuit in a way that permanently bars the IRS from ever auditing or prosecuting him, his sons, or the Trump Organization for any past tax matters. The Treasury Department’s own general counsel resigned in protest the same day. This is a sitting president using the machinery of the federal government to exempt himself from the laws that every other American is bound by. That is not a gray area. That is corruption. The second part of this deal is equally unconscionable. A $1.776 billion fund — funded by my tax dollars and yours — has been created under the DOJ to compensate people who claim they were “targeted” by the government. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has confirmed that anyone can apply, explicitly declining to rule out payments to individuals convicted of assaulting police officers during the January 6th Capitol attack. Vice President Vance echoed the same position from the White House podium. Let me be unambiguous: the January 6th rioters attacked law enforcement officers, stormed the United States Capitol, and attempted to prevent the lawful certification of a presidential election. The pardons issued by this president to those individuals were themselves an affront to every officer who was beaten that day. The idea that those same individuals could now receive taxpayer-funded compensation — potentially in the millions — is beyond outrage. It is a direct insult to every law-abiding American who pays their taxes and respects the rule of law. Capitol Police officers have already filed suit arguing this fund violates the 14th Amendment. Legal scholars have called it a shakedown of taxpayers. This is not a partisan talking point — this is a structural abuse of executive power that should alarm every member of Congress regardless of party. I am urging you in the strongest possible terms to: • Use every legislative tool available to defund and dismantle this fund before a single dollar is disbursed • Support legislation explicitly barring federal payments to anyone convicted in connection with the January 6th attack • Demand full congressional oversight and transparency over how this fund is administered • Publicly condemn the provision permanently shielding the president and his family from IRS enforcement This cannot stand. I will be watching how you respond to this moment — and so will your constituents.
