Replacing the experienced former director Bill Braniff, who had over 20 years of national security expertise, with an unqualified political appointee undermines CP3's critical mission. Fugate's lack of relevant experience calls into question his ability to strategically allocate resources, build productive partnerships with community stakeholders, and implement evidence-based approaches to counter radicalization. To safeguard the integrity and effectiveness of CP3's vital work, Fugate should be replaced by a qualified professional with a proven track record in counterterrorism, national security, and violence prevention. The leadership of this important agency must prioritize public safety over political patronage. A strong, experienced director is essential to ensure that CP3 can fulfill its mandate of protecting all communities from the scourge of extremist violence.
