Co-Sponsor Supreme Court Term Limits Legislation

The Supreme Court's 8-1 decision in Chiles v. Salazar this week makes the case for term limits better than any advocate ever could. Six anti-LGBTQ+ rulings in one year, including this decision that will invalidate conversion therapy bans in 23 states, shows what happens when justices serve for life without accountability. This ruling came on Trans Day of Visibility and will expose vulnerable children to a practice condemned by every major medical organization in America. The Trevor Project found that LGBTQ+ youth subjected to conversion therapy are more than twice as likely to attempt suicide. The United Nations calls it torture. Yet our Court decided that torturing children is protected speech. Justice Jackson warned from the bench that the fallout could be catastrophic and that we're entering an era of unsupervised, substandard medical care. She's right. This decision could extend First Amendment protections to any harmful professional advice delivered through words rather than instruments. We need Supreme Court term limits now. No justice should wield this much power over vulnerable populations for decades without facing voters or any form of democratic accountability. Co-sponsor legislation establishing 18-year term limits for Supreme Court justices. https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/supreme-court-rules-against-conversion
