However, these short-term challenges must be weighed against the strategic imperative of correcting decades of unfair trade practices that have disadvantaged American workers. This is a rare opportunity for bipartisan cooperation. Both Republicans and Democrats recognize the economic challenges China poses to American interests. Your collective wisdom and experience are invaluable, but limiting the President’s trade authority during active negotiations signals division that our adversaries will exploit. President Trump has already indicated flexibility, stating tariffs will “come down substantially, but it won’t be zero”. This demonstrates these measures are part of a negotiation strategy rather than permanent policy. By allowing this process to work, you give America the strongest chance of securing favorable terms.
