I am writing as a Maine constituent to urge you to oppose the SAVE Act.
This legislation would create unnecessary barriers to voter registration by requiring additional documentation that many eligible citizens do not readily have access to. Policies like this can disproportionately impact seniors, rural residents, military families, students, and married women whose legal names may not match their birth certificates.
Maine has a strong tradition of civic participation and accessible elections. Our state consistently demonstrates that we can maintain election integrity while ensuring that every eligible voter has a fair opportunity to participate. Federal legislation that imposes restrictive requirements undermines that tradition and risks disenfranchising lawful voters.
Protecting election security and protecting voter access are not mutually exclusive goals. I urge you to stand up for Maine voters and vote against the SAVE Act.
