Protect our data!

To: Sen. Moran, Sen. Marshall, Rep. Davids, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Paola, KS

February 4

I am concerned about the recent developments regarding Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) gaining control over the Treasury Department's payment system, including access to sensitive personal and financial data. The Bureau of the Fiscal Service, which DOGE now oversees, handles trillions in payments each year and has access to Social Security numbers and bank account details of most American taxpayers. This raises serious privacy and security risks. Granting a private individual like Musk access to such sensitive information sets a dangerous precedent and undermines public trust in government institutions. There are legitimate fears that this access could be abused, either intentionally or unintentionally, to disrupt critical federal programs like Social Security, Medicare, and aid to nonprofits. Musk's business ties to China also raise national security concerns about foreign access to this data. I urge you to take immediate action to revoke DOGE's control over the payment system and taxpayer data. The federal government must safeguard the personal information of citizens and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential services. Allowing a private entity to wield such power over the nation's finances is unacceptable and erodes public confidence in our democratic institutions. Please act swiftly to rectify this alarming situation and restore proper oversight and transparency.
