Vote NO on SB 1628 and HB 1217

To: Sen. Boyd, Rep. Robinson

From: A verified voter in Bradenton, FL

February 1

I am writing to urge you to vote NO on SB 1628 and HB 1217. These bills pose a direct threat to our local governments' ability to combat climate change and protect our communities from its devastating impacts. Sen. Bryan Avila’s proposal would severely restrict local policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, effectively locking Florida into a fossil fuel-dependent future. This is not only environmentally irresponsible but economically detrimental. Florida is already facing the dire consequences of climate change, from rising sea levels to extreme weather events. We cannot afford to ignore these realities. Local leaders have adopted climate-resilient plans to protect their communities. SB 1628 and HB 1217 would undermine these efforts, hampering progress in sustainability and clean energy. Instead of fostering innovation and attracting clean energy investments, these bills send a message that Florida is closed for business when it comes to renewable energy. We must prioritize the health and safety of our residents and the future of our state. I implore you to stand against these harmful measures and support local autonomy in addressing climate issues. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.
