Reconsider social media screening policy for Harvard visitors

To: Rep. Scanlon, Sen. McCormick, Pres. Trump, Sen. Fetterman

From: A verified voter in Wallingford, PA

May 30, 2025

This policy of social media screening for all foreign visitors to Harvard University is an unwarranted overreach that undermines fundamental American values of openness, freedom of expression and diversity. It projects an unwelcoming and suspicious stance towards international students and scholars, tarnishing the United States' longstanding reputation as a beacon of opportunity for the world's brightest minds. This heavy-handed approach will likely discourage talented individuals from pursuing studies or collaborations at American institutions, depriving the nation of immense intellectual capital. I urge a reconsideration of this misguided policy that threatens to erode the nation's global academic standing and soft power influence.
