What is the government thinking? Spending $40 million for a bunch of statues at a time that you are shutting down worthwhile programs. I feel that the most horrendous part of this is that a statue of Christopher Columbus might be made and equally horrific is that statues might be put on Native American land! As an elementary teacher I taught my students about Columbus’s 3 voyages to the Americas, and thinking even to his death that he was in the Indies. I told about his discovery of tomatoes, corn, and potatoes and these food’s introduction and importance to Europe (the Colombian Exchange). I also taught that these voyages ultimately killed millions of native people by introducing diseases!!!! If 4th graders know this, why don’t the people making and signing laws? This must be stopped! Use some common Indiana sense! How many other buried million dollar projects are in the House budget bill? I think it is time to do your homework and READ the bill! I add that the supposed tax cut extension be eliminated too! It doesn’t nothing but harm average Hoosiers!
