The United States Postal Service (USPS) has invested substantial resources into modernizing its delivery fleet through the acquisition of electric vehicles (EVs) and the installation of supporting charging infrastructure. Scrapping these EVs and related infrastructure would result in significant financial losses for the agency and undermine its efforts towards sustainability. The Senate parliamentarian has determined that Republicans cannot force the USPS to abandon its EV program through a tax and budget bill. This decision recognizes the substantial investment made by the USPS, which has already acquired 7,200 EVs and spent $540 million on charging infrastructure. Abandoning these assets would result in a projected $1.5 billion loss for the agency. Furthermore, the USPS plans to invest $10 billion in a 66,000-vehicle electrification program by 2028, aiming to replace its aging fleet with a mix of electric and gas-powered vehicles. Obstructing this modernization effort would hinder the agency's ability to provide efficient and sustainable services to the American public. In light of these facts, continued efforts to compel the USPS to scrap its EV program would be financially irresponsible and environmentally detrimental. The agency should be allowed to proceed with its planned electrification initiatives without undue interference.
