Vote Yes on SB 747

To: Gov. Newsom, Asm. Ahrens, Sen. Wahab

From: A verified voter in San Jose, CA

February 1

As your constituent living in San Jose, I am writing to strongly urge you to support Senate Bill 747, also known as the "No Kings Act." Our legal system is built on the principle that no one is above the law. However, a significant loophole currently exists that allows federal agents—including those from ICE and Customs and Border Protection—to violate the constitutional rights of Californians with near-total legal immunity. While state and local officers can be held accountable for misconduct, federal agents often operate without the same judicial oversight. SB 747 provides a vital solution by: • Establishing Accountability: Creating a state-level right of action for victims of constitutional violations, ensuring federal agents are held to the same standards as California’s own law enforcement. • Protecting Residents: Providing a legal pathway for justice in cases of excessive force or illegal searches, which is especially critical for our vulnerable immigrant communities. • Upholding Civil Rights: Ensuring that "justice for all" includes accountability for every officer operating within our state's borders. I believe that passing SB 747 is a necessary step toward transparency and public safety. I ask that you stand with the people of California and vote YES on this essential legislation. Thank you for your time and for your service to our community.
