Block Any New Fees Targeting Electric Vehicle Owners

To: Rep. Morelle, Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Rochester, NY

August 7

Block any new fees that single out electric vehicle owners. EV drivers already pay for roads through vehicle registration, sales taxes, and in many states, flat annual EV fees. Piling on additional charges specifically targeting EVs is a penalty on cleaner transportation, not a fair funding fix. If Congress is serious about highway funding, the BUILD America 250 Act is the right vehicle. It authorizes hundreds of billions for roads, bridges, and transit through fiscal year 2031 without punishing drivers who made the switch to electric. Singling out EVs for extra fees while that legislation is on the table is bad policy and bad faith. Vote no on any measure that imposes discriminatory charges on EV owners.
