Thank you for your service to the people of the United States and for your ongoing commitment to representing our community. I am writing today out of deep concern regarding provisions in the FY2026 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill that dramatically expand ICE’s enforcement, removal, and surveillance operations.
The bill includes increased funding for officers who carry out raids, surveillance systems, detention centers, and expanded capacity to detain families and young children. These measures would expose vulnerable people to overcrowded and unsafe conditions.
As a Franciscan-hearted constituent, I believe strongly in standing with people who are marginalized. These policies run contrary to these values and do not reflect the compassion that should guide our national immigration system.
I urge you to oppose the provisions in this bill that increase ICE operations and broaden the detention of families and children. Thank you again for your service to our community.
