I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to investigate and address the unprecedented corruption occurring in the executive branch. According to analysis by the New York Times editorial board, President Trump and his family have enriched themselves by at least $1.4 billion during his first year back in office. This figure represents 16,822 times the median US household income and is likely an undercount given the many hidden sources of Trump family wealth.
The largest source of this enrichment comes from cryptocurrency investments, generating at least $867 million in new wealth. Foreign entities and those seeking to influence federal policy can buy the family's coins through often-secret deals. A UAE ruling family member's investment company dumped $2 billion into World Liberty Financial, the Trump family's crypto startup, just two weeks before the White House announced the UAE would receive access to hundreds of thousands of advanced computer chips. This is textbook pay-for-play corruption.
Additional enrichment includes $23 million from licensing Trump's name overseas since his reelection, a $400 million jet from Qatar that he plans to use as Air Force One, $28 million paid directly to Melania Trump by Amazon for a documentary, and $90.5 million from settlements with tech and media companies that the Times characterizes as shakedowns rather than legitimate legal victories.
This exploitation of public office occurs while millions of Americans face economic hardship. Roughly 1.5 million people have already dropped their health coverage this year, with 1.3 million more expected to lose coverage in 2026 due to Republican cuts. About 4 million low-income people, including 1 million children, face reduced or eliminated food assistance.
Throughout our nation's history, presidents of both parties have avoided even the appearance of profiting from public service. I urge you to demand congressional investigations, support legislation to prevent presidential self-enrichment, and publicly condemn this corruption. Your constituents deserve leaders who serve the public interest, not their own bank accounts.
