I am writing to you as a concerned constituent regarding the use of the Civilian Expulsions and Custody Operations Team (CECOT) and the alarming reports of both U.S. citizens and non-citizens being sent to CECOT-run facilities.
CECOT’s methods and detainment operations have drawn widespread concern due to reports of human rights violations, lack of due process, and inhumane conditions. While national security and immigration enforcement are serious responsibilities, the tactics employed by CECOT are not aligned with the democratic values and constitutional protections that should define our country. Sending U.S. citizens—many of whom are detained without proper legal representation or clear justification—is especially troubling and potentially unconstitutional.
Furthermore, the treatment of non-citizens under CECOT’s authority raises critical humanitarian and legal questions. We must uphold the principles of due process, humane treatment, and accountability for all individuals under U.S. jurisdiction, regardless of their citizenship status.
I urge you to take immediate steps to investigate CECOT operations, demand transparency and oversight, and push for legislation that ensures no one—citizen or non-citizen—is subjected to indefinite or unjust detention without adequate legal protections.
Thank you for your time and service. I hope you will take action to defend the rights of all people and uphold the values that define our democracy.
