Support Universal Basic Income to Address AI Job Displacement

To: Pres. Trump, Rep. Chu, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in Pasadena, CA

March 30

I need you to support legislation establishing a universal basic income program to protect American workers from AI-driven job displacement. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon just warned that his bank will employ fewer people in the next five years due to AI productivity gains, and he's calling for proactive government action before this becomes a crisis. Dimon laid out a scenario where autonomous vehicles could eliminate 2 million commercial truck driver jobs overnight. These are workers earning six-figure incomes who would be forced into lower-skilled jobs paying a fraction of their previous wages. Even a CEO deploying AI aggressively at his own company is saying the benefits don't outweigh the broader costs of eliminating these jobs all at once. We can't wait until millions of Americans lose their livelihoods to act. Dimon himself said at Davos that he would welcome a government ban on mass AI layoffs "if we have to do that to save society." Universal basic income would provide a safety net while workers retrain and adapt. This isn't about stopping progress. It's about ensuring technological change doesn't destroy the middle class in the process.
