Restore and Strengthen the Voting Rights Act

To: Rep. Sewell, Sen. Tuberville, Sen. Britt

From: A constituent in Hoover, AL

May 8

I'm writing about the Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais, which has gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and opened the door for states to gerrymander away the political power of Black, Latino, and minority voters. Alabama is already in a special legislative session that could result in maps that disadvantage Black voters, Latino voters, and every voter who isn't in the political majority. We've seen what this looks like in Tennessee, where Republicans are carving up Memphis into three districts to wipe out its majority-Black seat. Birmingham was the birthplace of the Voting Rights Act. We are watching what happens to that legacy right now. I'm asking you to support federal legislation to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act before these maps are locked in. Congress has done it before. Do it again. This is what the majority of Americans want!
