EPA must not devalue human health in cost benefit analyses for regulations

To: Sen. Collins, Sen. King, Rep. Pingree

From: A constituent in Scarborough, ME

January 14

The New York Times reported yesterday that Trump's Environmental Protection Agency will stop calculating the human health impacts of air and water quality standards. Instead, the agency will reportedly only calculate industry costs. Between 1999 and 2020, air pollution from coal-fired power plants killed nearly half a million Americans. This move is yet another example of Trump and EPA administrator Lee Zeldin putting corporate polluters' profits over people's lives. Please push back against this dangerous change in how air pollution cost-benefit is calculated. Protection of human health is central to EPA’s mission, and must be meaningfully considered in any cost-benefit analysis for regulations.
