Bread and Circuses for Taxpayers, Golden Ballrooms for Trump

To: Rep. DelBene, Sen. Murray, Sen. Cantwell, Pres. Trump

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

August 24

Block any effort to make the downtown DC IndyCar race an annual event, and demand a full accounting of what this stunt cost taxpayers. Nobody asked for this. Nobody wanted it. What it produced was welded-down manhole covers, rerouted flights, displaced traffic lights, and National Gallery sculptures wrapped in protective padding — all so one person could play with race cars in our nation's capital. The cleanup alone requires workers to unweld more than 200 manhole covers and restore everything that was torn up for this vanity project. Meanwhile, the FDA gutted most of its food safety inspectors, and now we have high-risk recalls on frozen blueberries. Wild horses are being rounded up and sold for $25 a head to traders who won't say where they went. These are the actual crises demanding attention. Mike Johnson says he wants to make this race an annual event and will push for it. That cannot happen. The people I talk to want healthcare, food that won't kill them, and accountability — not a recurring disruption to the city's infrastructure so someone can wave a checkered flag. Do your job and make sure this circus doesn't come back.
