I'm writing to voice my strong opposition to the SCREEN Act, KOSA, and the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act. With ineffective and censorious laws cropping up across the nation, and worldwide, it's especially concerning when these laws aren't subjected to extremely strict scrutiny. Child safety is important. It's also important to get this right and not criminalize speech which is legal and doesn't involve exploitation in its creation. SESTA AND FOSTA have been in effect for years and yet have failed to deliver the results promised by advocates of these very laws. All they have done is make previously legal sex work illegal, pushing it back into the streets and allowing for more rampant exploitation and trafficking by bad actors. It has also emboldened bad faith actors who seek to censor disfavored and 'awful but lawful' speech. Grooming, sexual assault, CSEM and CSAM creation do not stem from sexual expression, but from so-called 'safe adults' who use anything and everything to gain a victim's interest and keep it. That is why I not only oppose these bills and laws, but oppose them with prejudice: the ones supporting legislation like this with no care for what happens after should be scrutinized heavily, for more often than not in these communities that trumpet about minors and pornography, the ones shouting the loudest about the media and sexualization are the ones committing the crimes.
