I’m writing today to express my deep frustration and disbelief at Senator Lisa Murkowski’s vote in favor of H.R. 1 — the “Our Big, Beautiful Border Act” — and to urge you, as one of my Democratic senators, to continue standing firmly against this harmful legislation. H.R. 1 is not immigration reform — it is a cruel, politically driven attack on vulnerable communities, and it comes at the cost of gutting critical social programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and housing assistance. Watching a senator once known for moderation and decency vote in favor of such a bill is both disappointing and alarming. Now more than ever, we need Democratic leadership to speak out forcefully and unapologetically in defense of the people this bill would hurt. We need bold voices pushing back against the normalization of cruelty disguised as policy. I know where you stand on many of these issues, but I urge you to be loud and unequivocal in your opposition to H.R. 1 and any effort to revive it in the Senate.
