As your constituent I am writing to ask that you take action to block the proposed rules change in the OMB granting final authority over science funding to political appointees. This is one of the most stupid actions I believe we could possibly take - it’s not shooting ourselves in the foot, it’s shooting ourselves in the head, almost literally. The Soviet Union did this with Lysenko and it took them generations to recover. This will absolutely cripple science in the US and seriously harm science worldwide. Science must be directed by scientists based on merit and not ideology.
