I am writing to express my outrage over recent reports that former President Donald J. Trump plans to accept a private plane from the government of Qatar. This is not just unethical—it is a blatant violation of the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution and a flashing red warning light of potential corruption and foreign influence.
Let us be clear: a foreign government does not give a multimillion-dollar aircraft to a former or aspiring U.S. president out of generosity. What do they expect in return? What doors are being quietly opened, what policies are being shaped behind the scenes in exchange for this so-called “gift”? The American people deserve answers, not more silence and complicity from their elected leaders.
Beyond the obvious constitutional violation, this raises deeply troubling national security concerns. Accepting a foreign government’s aircraft—possibly outfitted with surveillance devices or other covert technologies—could expose highly sensitive communications and compromise national interests. Are we really going to stand by while foreign regimes potentially buy influence and access to someone who may hold or seek the presidency?
Congress must take action. I call on you to:
Launch an immediate investigation into any discussions or arrangements between Donald Trump and the Qatari government related to this aircraft.
Hold public hearings on the potential national security risks and constitutional violations.
Strengthen legal prohibitions and enforcement mechanisms regarding foreign gifts to current and former federal officials.
The Emoluments Clause exists for a reason: to protect the United States from corruption and foreign manipulation. If it is ignored now, we are surrendering a core protection of our democratic system. This is not about politics. It is about patriotism, accountability, and the rule of law.
We are watching. And we demand action.
