I am writing to oppose and protest the illegal, authoritarian actions of Homeland Security and ICE in my community. Recently, Tom Homan has chosen to make an example of cities and states he terms sanctuaries for "illegals." My city and state have been targeted in a discriminatory manner that puts all residents at risk, regardless of their status. People have been snatched off the street by armed people in masks with badges obscured or no badges. Law-abiding immigrants have been ambushed at appointments and hearings. Bystanders who film or protest, protected behavior under the First Amendment, have been threatened or arrested. On Monday, Homeland Security, ICE, and law enforcement held a press conference in Boston threatening "anyone who got in their way." It was a clear threat, ambiguously worded to chill dissent and stop people from documenting, protesting, or supporting immigrants. I am asking as a constituent that you introduce legislation to state that ICE agents, as well as any law enforcement be held accountable for illegal actions. Law enforcement covering their faces or badges to hide their identity is unacceptable. Law enforcement ignoring due process is illegal. Law enforcement using excessive force is dangerous. These are the actions of a failed nation or authoritarian regime, not the United States. Any law enforcement behaving in this manner should not be afforded any sort of immunity for their actions. plan for immigration reform.
