Implement Safeguards Against Purchasing Pardons to Uphold Justice

To: Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden, Rep. Bonamici

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

June 1

Legal experts sound the alarm over the corrupting influence of wealthy individuals and special interests essentially purchasing pardons through exorbitant lobbying fees paid to those with connections to the White House. This brazenly undermines the sacred principles of equal justice and erodes the very rule of law. Pardons granted through a flagrant pay-to-play system make an absolute mockery of the pardoning power and catastrophically destroy public trust in government institutions. To urgently uphold integrity and restore faith in the justice system before it is too late, stringent safeguards and reforms must be immediately implemented to prevent the nefarious buying and selling of pardons. No one should ever be above the law or able to circumvent consequences through deep pockets alone. True justice demands an impartial process shielded from the caustic, corrosive effects of money and elite access at all costs.
