Oppose the OMB's proposed Uniform Grants Regulation, published 5/29/26

To: Sen. Tuberville, Rep. Sewell, Sen. Britt

From: A constituent in Hoover, AL

June 1

I'm writing to urge you to publicly oppose the OMB's proposed Uniform Grants Regulation, published May 29, docket OMB-2026-0034.   This rule would require political appointees — not scientists — to approve every federal research grant, and would let agencies cancel active grants at any time for political reasons. NIH awards are already 74% below their normal pace this year because the administration dismantled the agency's own workforce. Adding a political approval layer on top of a system that is already failing to get congressionally approved funds to Alabama researchers makes it worse, not better.   Please speak out against this rule and press OMB to withdraw the political pre-approval requirement and the at-will termination authoritybefore October 1.
