Block the proposed Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger. This deal, revealed September 11, 2025, would hand a single ownership group — with documented ties to Donald Trump — control over more than a quarter of the $223 billion U.S. media market, nearly half of cable television, and a third of film production. That's not consolidation. That's capture.
The political dimensions here are disqualifying. Before this merger even cleared review, CBS paid Trump $16.5 million to settle a lawsuit, and the FCC approved the Paramount-Skydance deal only after demanding CBS hire a conservative ombudsman and eliminate DEI programs. The ombudsman chosen, Kenneth Weinstein, is a former Trump ambassador. Larry Ellison, who is bankrolling the deal through Oracle, was described by The New York Times as potentially closer to Trump than any mogul outside Elon Musk. Combined with the administration's $1.1 billion in cuts to public media, this merger would give one political faction effective editorial leverage over CNN, CBS, HBO, and the cloud infrastructure that competitors depend on. The comparison to how Viktor Orbán dismantled press independence in Hungary is not hyperbole — it's a roadmap. Vote to block this merger.
