Oppose the use of automatic license plate reader cameras like Flock Safety in our communities and push to cancel any existing contracts with ALPR companies.
Flock cameras track every car that passes, cataloging make, model, color, plate number, bumper stickers, and even scratches, then upload that data into a nationwide database that any law enforcement agency with a Flock contract can search. There is no warrant requirement and almost no oversight. ICE has used this system to pursue immigrants without warrants, Kansas police used it to target a man who wrote a critical op-ed about their department, and a Colorado officer wrongfully accused a woman of theft based on a Flock hit and then refused to look at evidence clearing her. A mother and her children were held at gunpoint because ALPR cameras misidentified their car as stolen.
This is not a hypothetical threat. These cameras reveal which doctors I visit, which house of faith I attend, which protests I go to. That is a surveillance profile no government agency should be able to build on law-abiding people without a warrant. Communities across the country are canceling Flock contracts in response to public pressure, and I want my community to be next. Reject this technology and protect the privacy and safety of every person in this district.
