Reign in Trump’s DOJ

To: Sen. Schumer, Rep. Tonko, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Troy, NY

July 21

The Department of Justice has lost its way. Its mission of upholding the law and ensuring justice for all Americans has been dropped in the interest of attacking those who stand against Trump. Under Attorney General Bondi's leadership, the DOJ has engaged in disturbing actions that undermine its integrity and independence. Key appointments like FBI Director Kash Patel and deputies like Blanche, Bongino, and Bove have turned the DOJ into a political weapon. The DOJ has dropped charges against Trump's co-defendants in the classified documents case, fired prosecutors investigating Trump and the January 6th insurrection, opened retaliatory investigations into former officials like Comey and Brennan, and discredited whistleblowers exposing unethical conduct. The mishandling of the Epstein case, with the firing of a prosecutor and contradictory memos, further erodes public trust. The DOJ is compromised and no longer serves justice or the rule of law. It is time for Congress to utilize its full authority to insulate the DOJ from executive branch overreach and political interference. Create an independent prosecutor role, strengthen whistleblower protections, and increase oversight through investigative hearings now—before it’s too late! Right now, I have no faith that the DOJ is working for me and the American people. It is time to restore DOJ independence.
