Tax Extreme Wealth and Close the Loopholes That Create Billionaires

To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Walberg

Investigate the tax treatment and regulatory advantages that allow individuals to accumulate trillion-dollar fortunes while Americans go without housing and food. Billionaire wealth, built through dual-class share arrangements, deferred capital gains, and public subsidies, now rivals the GDP of entire nations. That is not a success story. It is a policy failure. These financial structures let capital flow upward while companies post losses and workers lose ground. Dual-class share arrangements give founders outsized voting control far beyond their equity stakes, insulating that wealth from any meaningful check by shareholders or the public. These are the exact mechanisms that concentrate power and strip ordinary people of economic standing. Wealth at this scale shapes elections, captures regulators, and prices working people out of housing, healthcare, and opportunity. I want to see legislation that taxes extreme accumulated wealth, closes dual-class share loopholes, and ends the public subsidies that help build private billion-dollar empires. The gap between a billionaire and a tent city is not inevitable. It is a choice, and elected officials make it every session.
