S. 737, the SCREEN Act, aims to censor the internet under the guise of “protecting minors”. As your constituent, I insist that you vote “NO” on this bill. Any site with material deemed harmful would be forced to collect sensitive data from users, such as biometric scans, photo IDs, or background checks, to confirm their identity. By forcing sites to gather it without appropriate security measures - which many site hosts either can’t afford or won’t bother with - Americans’ data will be exposed to hackers and scammers across the web. This will create a massive security liability for American infrastructure, and will put people in danger of having their data stolen. This is not speculation: the UK has already implemented a similar law, and many citizens are already reporting security breaches that compromised their data. The ends here do not justify the incredibly invasive means, especially for a matter that is best managed by parental controls and parent/child communication. Protect our freedom and security - vote NO on the SCREEN Act!
