Reject destructive logging plans, preserve our national forest heritage

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Mullin, Sen. Lankford, Rep. Bice

From: A constituent in Guthrie, OK

March 5

The president's recent executive order to expand logging across 280 million acres of national forests and public lands is deeply concerning. Our forests are invaluable natural treasures that provide critical habitat for endangered species like grizzly bears, spotted owls, and wild salmon. They also play a vital role in addressing climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Aggressive logging practices will not only endanger these precious ecosystems but could also increase the risk of catastrophic wildfires by altering the microclimate and creating hotter, drier conditions. I urge you to take a stand against this reckless executive order and prioritize the protection of our national forests and public lands. These natural wonders belong to all Americans, and we have a responsibility to preserve them for future generations. Implementing aggressive logging measures in the name of wildfire risk reduction or economic interests is shortsighted and contradicts scientific evidence. Instead of exploiting our forests for timber, we should focus on sustainable forest management practices that strike a balance between conservation and responsible resource use. We must also uphold and strengthen environmental regulations like the Endangered Species Act, which safeguards vulnerable species and their habitats. Our national forests and parks are national treasures that define the majesty of our landscapes. I implore you to stand up for their preservation and reject policies that prioritize profits over the long-term health of these irreplaceable natural resources.
