I'm writing as your constituent to share my deep concern about President Trump's recent executive order on elections — and to ask that you continue speaking out forcefully against it. This order troubles me for several reasons. A similar executive order signed about a year ago was already blocked by federal courts, which recognized that the Constitution grants states — not the president — authority over elections. This new order appears to test those same boundaries again. I worry about what it means when an administration repeatedly reaches for powers the courts have said it doesn't have. I'm also alarmed by the Justice Department's aggressive pursuit of sensitive voter data from states, with plans to share it with DHS and run it through a system that has already been shown to inaccurately flag U.S. citizens as noncitizens. The potential for wrongful disenfranchisement is real and serious. President Trump has long claimed — without credible evidence — that noncitizen voting and mail ballot fraud are widespread problems. Election experts consistently dispute this. I believe this executive order is built on that same false foundation, and that its real effect would be to make it harder for eligible Americans to vote. You are already strong champions of voting rights, and I don't take that for granted. I simply want you to know that your constituents are watching, that we care deeply about this, and that we want you to use every legal and legislative tool available to push back against these efforts. Please continue to challenge this in court, oppose the SAVE America Act, and make your voices heard on behalf of the voters you represent.
