I am writing to urge you to speak out (and act) against the alarming dysfunction and lack of accountability within the Pentagon under the leadership of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The situation has devolved into chaos. Former senior officials have described the Department of Defense as being in “total disarray” under Hegseth’s leadership, citing backstabbing, missteps, and a lack of coherent strategy. These aren’t partisan accusations, they’re real-time warnings from people who understand the stakes of national security.
Hegseth’s behavior has only fueled further concerns. From using second Signal group chats to discuss classified plans, to publicly attacking the media and whistleblowers during a White House Easter event, his conduct is reckless and unserious. This is not leadership. It is clownish at best, dangerous at worst.
While the White House stands by Hegseth, Congress must not. I commend Senators Schumer, Warner, Slotkin, Murphy, Warren, Kelly, and Duckworth who are calling for his resignation. Their leadership is critical. Now, it’s time for the full weight of Congress to join them.
I also urge you to reject future appointees who are clearly unqualified or ideologically extreme. These roles are not for television personalities or political loyalists, they are for serious public servants with proven judgment, integrity, and respect for the institutions they serve. The pattern of nominating individuals with no relevant experience or temperament must end. Congress must hold the line.
At a time when the U.S. is weighing deeply consequential decisions about Ukraine, NATO, and our role in global security, we cannot afford to have unqualified and erratic individuals at the helm. I urge you to demand Pete Hegseth’s resignation and to push for qualified, principled leadership in our Defense Department.
Enough is enough. We deserve competence, clarity, and accountability.
