I am writing to express my deep concern over the increasing and unlawful influence that Elon Musk is exerting over the federal government. His appointment to an unofficial but seemingly powerful role—without Senate confirmation, without congressional oversight, and without the legal creation of a department—is an affront to our constitutional system of checks and balances.
Congress cannot afford to be a bystander while an unelected billionaire assumes decision-making power over our nation’s critical functions. The Senate’s role in confirming executive appointments exists precisely to prevent this kind of corporate overreach. The House and Senate must act swiftly to reassert congressional authority before Musk’s unchecked power leads to further democratic erosion.
Musk and Donald Trump are employing a reckless, slash-and-burn approach that threatens our national stability, our institutions, and the rule of law. Congress must:
1. Investigate the extent of Musk’s role and influence within the federal government, particularly in national security, transportation, and technology policy.
2. Pass legislation that explicitly curtails corporate and unelected influence over governmental functions and prevents billionaires from assuming power without public accountability.
3. Ensure that all executive appointments and advisory positions remain subject to Senate confirmation and congressional oversight.
The American people did not elect Elon Musk. He has not been vetted, he is not accountable to the public, and he should not be allowed to wield the levers of power in government. Congress must grow a spine and stand up to this brazen overreach before it is too late.
I urge you to take immediate action and push for stronger oversight, investigations, and legislative protections against this creeping autocracy. Please do not allow our democracy to be sold off to the highest bidder.
I look forward to your response and to seeing meaningful action on this issue.
