The reports of inhumane conditions at the immigration detention facility in the Florida Everglades are deeply concerning. Detainees have alleged lack of access to water, inadequate food, constant lighting, rampant mosquitoes, and lack of medical care. These conditions are unacceptable and violate basic human rights standards. I urge you to take immediate action to address these allegations and, if proven true, shut down this facility until humane living conditions can be provided. No person, regardless of immigration status, should be subjected to such mistreatment. Upholding human dignity must be the top priority. An independent investigation into the conditions at this facility should be launched without delay. Those found responsible for allowing such deplorable conditions to persist must be held accountable. I implore you to prioritize the wellbeing of these detainees and ensure their rights and basic needs are met while in custody. If you sit back and do nothing, you are just as guilty of these human rights violations by your inaction. Do you really want to be in office doing nothing about people being sent to a concentration camp in deplorable conditions with no due process? History will not treat you well if you remain quiet.
