I am writing to urge you to maintain relentless pressure on the Department of Justice to fully comply with the law Congress passed last year mandating the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related files. The DOJ was required to release millions of pages of materials by December 19, yet has only released a few tranches in late December with millions of pages still unreleased. This is unacceptable noncompliance with a clear congressional mandate.
U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer recently denied the request by Representatives Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna to appoint an independent monitor to oversee DOJ's disclosure obligations, but he explicitly noted that lawmakers retain the right to sue. I urge you to explore every available legal avenue to enforce this law, including litigation if necessary. The judge acknowledged there are legitimate concerns about DOJ compliance, and those concerns are shared by your constituents.
Lawmakers have also raised serious issues about improper redactions in the limited materials that have been released. The American people deserve the full truth about Epstein's criminal network and anyone who enabled or participated in his crimes. Transparency is essential for justice and accountability.
The timing of this stonewalling is deeply troubling. While multiple distractions dominate headlines, the DOJ continues to delay releasing documents that Congress legally mandated be made public. This suggests an effort to run out the clock and hope public attention fades.
I ask you to take concrete action: publicly demand full DOJ compliance, coordinate with Representatives Massie and Khanna on potential litigation, hold oversight hearings to question DOJ officials about the delays and improper redactions, and use every tool at your disposal to ensure these files are released completely and without unjustified redactions. The law is clear, and the DOJ must follow it.
