As a constituent and a post-production professional, I urge you to help pass a tax incentive to strengthen post-production employment in California. Please vote in favor of AB 2319.
Our industry has long been a cornerstone of California's economy, supported by skilled, unionized craftspeople whose work brings filmed entertainment to life. But over the past several decades, other states and countries offering more competitive incentives have lured away much of the work that used to be done in the Golden State.
While last year's revamp of California's production tax credit was an important step, a key concern remains: much of our post-production work in California depends on projects that are filmed on location elsewhere for creative reasons but return home for editing, sound, visual effects, and finishing. Other states' and countries' post-specific tax incentives have allowed them a to capture this business that has historically been done in California. That vital work and the good union jobs it supports need to be brought back here.
