The implications of enforcing the 1849 abortion ban in Wisconsin are truly disturbing. It would force child victims of rape and incest to carry their pregnancies to term, an unimaginable trauma on top of the horrific abuse they have already endured. Denying access to abortion care in such cases is inhumane and a violation of basic human rights. Compelling rape survivors to give birth is nothing short of reproductive violence. This archaic law also fails to account for cases where the life or health of the pregnant person is at risk, potentially signing their "death warrants" as Justice Karofsky aptly stated. The ban's lack of exceptions is alarmingly regressive and out of touch with modern ethical and medical standards. I urge you to stand against reinstating this draconian statute that would endanger lives and compound the suffering of victims. Wisconsin deserves abortion laws grounded in compassion, bodily autonomy, and respect for human rights.
