I am writing to express my strong support for your current position regarding the ongoing government shutdown. I applaud your resolve and thank you for finally making a stand against the current administration's excesses. It is imperative that Congress use its power of the purse to demand necessary changes, and I urge you to hold firm.
I believe you should not fund the government until the administration meets crucial demands to restore civil liberties and the proper role of government. Specifically, I urge you to insist that the administration:
* Immediately remove all National Guard troops from American cities. The sustained presence of federalized military-style forces in domestic areas, absent a clear and localized emergency, is an unacceptable overreach.
* Pledge not to deploy active military troops in American cities for domestic law enforcement or political purposes. Such a deployment must be categorically prevented.
Finally, I also wish to draw your attention to a serious ethical and legal matter. Numerous government websites are currently displaying banners directly blaming Democrats for the shutdown. Furthermore, reports indicate that all outgoing government emails also contain this partisan message. The use of taxpayer-funded government resources, websites, and official communications to engage in partisan political activity is likely a violation of the Hatch Act. I urge your office to investigate these apparent violations immediately and to pursue accountability for any officials found to be using government assets for partisan advantage.
Thank you for your service. I urge you to maintain your firm position until these critical conditions are met.
