Repair Trump‘s Damage, Pass RAWA: Protect Our Wildlife and Agriculture

To: Sen. Collins, Rep. Pingree, Sen. King

July 7

I am writing to urge your full support for the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA). In light of the shortsighted severe federal budget cut championed by the Trump administration and Elon Musk with his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), passing this bipartisan legislation is more urgent than ever. The proposed elimination of the USGS Ecosystems Mission Area threatens to permanently defund essential scientific pillars, including the Native Bee Inventory and Monitoring Lab and the North American Breeding Bird Survey. Native bees and avian populations are the backbone of our agricultural sector, providing vital pollination and pest control. Stripping away their monitoring directly compromises the stability of our food supply. RAWA provides a robust solution, delivering stable funding to state and tribal wildlife action plans to proactively protect vulnerable species. This bill is not just about conservation; it is an investment in our outdoor economy, ecological resilience, and long-term economic stability. I strongly urge you to reject these short-sighted cuts, safeguard our natural heritage, and vote to pass RAWA. Our environment, our farmers, and our future cannot afford to wait.
