I am writing as a concerned Floridian deeply worried about the growing threats to our community’s well-being—specifically the potential rise in health care premiums and the looming risk of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) funding running out. Health care costs are already stretching families to their limits, and any increase in premiums would push even more people into impossible choices between paying medical bills or keeping food on the table. At the same time, SNAP remains a lifeline for many working families, seniors, and children across our state. Letting that safety net collapse would not only harm individuals—it would hurt local economies, small businesses, and community stability. If Congress refuses to act to protect ordinary Americans, then it is up to Florida’s leaders to step up. Our state government has the ability—and the responsibility—to cushion the impact of federal inaction. Whether through emergency funding, state-level subsidies, or policy reforms that make health care and nutrition more affordable, Florida can and should protect its people. I urge you to show leadership and compassion in this moment. Political gridlock in Washington is no excuse for inaction at home. The people of Florida deserve representatives who will put their needs first, not partisan interests. Please take immediate steps to prevent health care costs from rising and to ensure that every Floridian who depends on SNAP has the support they need.
