The First Amendment protects the freedoms of speech and religion for all Americans, including students in public schools. HB231 undermines these constitutional rights by forcing participation in the Pledge of Allegiance and state-sponsored prayer. This compulsory religious practice creates an unwelcoming environment for those who do not share the mandated "Judeo-Christian values." All students deserve an inclusive educational setting where they feel safe, respected, and able to make their own decisions about religious observance. Severe financial penalties for noncompliance will only breed resentment, not genuine adherence. Protecting students' rights to freedom of belief should be prioritized over misguided attempts at unity through coercion. I urge you to uphold the First Amendment by opposing HB231 and allowing students' diverse perspectives to be honored, not suppressed.
