I’m writing to express my deep disappointment in the recent decision to back down and fund the government under the current terms. While I understand the urgency of restoring essential programs such as SNAP and others that directly impact vulnerable communities, this outcome feels like a missed opportunity to stand firm on Democratic priorities and values. There had to be a way to achieve these necessary protections while maintaining party unity and strength in the face of Republican and Trump-aligned obstruction. Instead, this decision gives the appearance of weakness rather than strategic compromise. I recognize that governing requires difficult choices and negotiation, but I’m struggling to see what tangible benefit this decision provided Democrats or the broader cause we are supposed to be advancing. As a supporter, I find this incredibly disappointing.
